Putting the end first
An eagle's view to projects, goals, and relationships.
I didn’t start out as an “end in mind” guy. I didn’t even know it was a skill.
In fact, “putting the end first” just happened.
I stumbled upon it, noticed it when it occurred,
…studied it.
Repeating the process was simple and self rewarding so I kept using it.
Try it yourself.
You’ll notice the results.
This is what happens:
Your vision opens up…..you can see different things clearer.
When you are looking over the landscape, the roads come into view. You can start to navigate them better.
Naturally, you stay motivated longer and stronger.
You can begin to see the obstacles ahead and overcome them in advance.
You can fortify weaknesses.
You can measure progress with more accurate anticipation.
You will move ahead with confidence.
Along the way, you’ll uncover the skills you’ll need to learn or hire out.
Here’s a story about the first time I noticed it myself.
Once, I walked into a 2 am meeting after getting off a plane from the East Coast. Wow, that’s almost 30 years ago. Sorry. I got distracted there for a second.
I was exhausted but it was a new position. No going to sleep now.
In a brightly lit conference room, the owner asked me, “Bill, what did you say about the training program?”
I stumbled and mumbled………
“What do you want the end to look like?”
Thought he was going to jump over the table and give me a kiss.
Almost immediately, he saw a genuine and successful end to his major client story.
(We could all go to sleep. haha)
The brain, it seems, finds putting the pieces together more quickly and “accurately” when you give it a visual map. (What can I say? I have a knack for the obvious.)
Try it with your own project.
Your home life.
Your business.
What does the “end” of your story look like?
Let me know your thoughts.
